Prophets know the future

Here are several quotes from the current president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints about the future. I emphasized the words he uses about coming days in bold. I testify that President Russell M. Nelson is the Lord’s prophet on the earth today. He is a seer — “a seer is greater than a prophet,” and “a seer is a revelator and a prophet also” (Mosiah 8:15-16).

In a coming day, you will present yourself before the Savior. You will be overwhelmed to the point of tears to be in His holy presence. You will struggle to find words to thank Him for paying for your sins, for forgiving you of any unkindness toward others, for healing you from the injuries and injustices of this life.

You will thank Him for strengthening you to do the impossible, for turning your weaknesses into strengths, and for making it possible for you to live with Him and your family forever. His identity, His Atonement, and His attributes will become personal and real to you.

But you don’t have to wait until then. Choose to be one of His true disciples now. Be one who truly loves Him, who truly wants to serve and lead as He did.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Prophets, Leadership, and Divine Law,” Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults, Jan. 8, 2017, BYU

In a coming dayonly those men who have taken their priesthood seriously, by diligently seeking to be taught by the Lord Himself, will be able to bless, guide, protect, strengthen, and heal others. Only a man who has paid the price for priesthood power will be able to bring miracles to those he loves and keep his marriage and family safe, now and throughout eternity.

—Then-Elder Russell M. Nelson, “The Price of Priesthood Power,” April 2016, original emphasis in italics

Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost. My beloved brothers and sisters, I plead with you to increase your spiritual capacity to receive revelation.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for our Lives,” April 2018

I am optimistic about the future. It will be filled with opportunities for each of us to progress, contribute, and take the gospel to every corner of the earth. But I am also not naive about the days ahead.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for our Lives,” April 2018

In that coming day when you will complete your mortal probation and enter the spirit world, you will be brought face-to-face with that heart-wrenching question: “Where is my family?”

Jesus Christ teaches the way back to our eternal home. He understands our Heavenly Father’s plan of eternal progression better than any of us. After all, He is the keystone of it all. He is our Redeemer, our Healer, and our Savior.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Come Follow Me,” April 2019

My dear brothers and sisters, these are the latter days. If you and I are to withstand the forthcoming perils and pressures, it is imperative that we each have a firm spiritual foundation built upon the rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation,” Oct. 2021, original emphasis in italics

Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ. His essential ordinances bind us to Him through sacred priesthood covenants. Then, as we keep our covenants, He endows us with His healing, strengthening power. And oh, how we will need His power in the days ahead.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation,” Oct. 2021, original emphasis in italics.

Difficult days are ahead. Sin is on the increase. Paul foresaw that members of the Church would endure persecution (see 2 Timothy 3:1-13; D&C 112:24-26). … As Jesus descended below all things in order to rise above all things, He expects us to follow His example. Yoked with Him, each of us can rise above all of our challenges, no matter how difficult they may be (see Matthew 11:29-30).

—Russell M. Nelson, “The Peace and Joy of Knowing the Savior Lives,” BYU devotional, Dec. 10, 2002

In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior’s power that the world has ever seen. Between now and the time He returns “with power and great glory,” He will bestow countless privileges, blessings, and miracles upon the faithful.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Overcome the World and Find Rest,” Oct. 2022, original emphasis in italics

The moral and spiritual power that our people need right now and for the days ahead is the power of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. We gain access to Their power by making and keeping covenants with Them.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “The Power of Keeping Covenants,” General Conference Leadership Meeting, April 2024

I am not saying that the days ahead will be easy, but I promise you that the future will be glorious for those who are prepared and who continue to prepare to be instruments in the Lord’s hands.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “Embrace the Future with Faith,” Oct. 2020

I plead with you to be the men and young men the Lord needs you to be. Make your focus on daily repentance so integral to your life that you can exercise the priesthood with greater power than ever before. This is the only way you will keep yourself and your family spiritually safe in the challenging days ahead.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “We Can Do Better and Be Better,” April 2019, original emphasis in italics

We live in a glorious age, foreseen by prophets for centuries. This is the dispensation when no spiritual blessing will be withheld from the righteous. Despite the world’s commotion, the Lord would have us look forward to the future ‘with joyful anticipation.

—President Russell M. Nelson, “A New Normal,” Oct. 2020

The future is bright for God’s covenant-keeping people. The Lord will increasingly call upon His servants who worthily hold the priesthood to bless, comfort, and strengthen mankind and to help prepare the world and its people for His Second Coming.
